Su nombre hace referencia al Ebro, río por excelencia de Aragón y por cuyos margenes transcurre el Camino Jacobeo del Ebro, ruta que llevaba a los peregrinos procedentes del Mediterraneo hacia Zaragoza.
En el termino municipal de Sástago se encuentra el Monasterio de Nuestra Señora de Rueda, conjunto cisterciense del siglo XIII con adicciones posteriores hasta el siglo XVI y que cuenta, tras una cuidada restauración, con sobresalientes estancias claustrales y un Museo del Ebro.
De gran interés es, asimismo, Velilla de Ebro, donde hayamos las ruinas de la ciudad romana de Celsa, la primera capital romana del Valle del Ebro, antes de la fundación de Caesaraugusta (actual Zaragoza).
La Comarca de la Ribera Baja del Ebro tiene su capitalidad en el municipio de Quinto.
