Sos was one of the most important fortified sites in the Cinco Villas area during the 10th and 11th centuries.
Its splendid setting on a high spur, in the foothills of La Peña sierra, makes the town become a real natural fortress.
Two promontories stand out: the southern, with the Sada Palace (Historic-Artistic Monument), where king Fernando the Catholic was born in 1452, has battlements that give it a fortress-like look.
In the northern, called Feliciana cliff, Ramiro II had the castle built: from here the ample visibility allows to see the Pyrenean mountains and those of Navarra (Sanguesa).
The castle (12th C.) presents a small walled area with an irregular plan.
In its centre, the slender keep, with a square plan, was erected.
At its foot, and following the custom, the Romanesque parish church was built.
This 13th C. building is a National Monument.
The walls, built afterwards, surround the town and mingle with the houses attached to it.
The main tower is known as the Fuente Alta (the High Fountain) or the Queen's Tower.
Other towers-doorways are: Jaca Tower, Nador Tower, Zaragoza Tower, el Mudo (the Mute) Tower, Uncastillo Tower and el Bueno (the Good) Tower.
Other remarkable buildings are the church of San Martin, a 13th C.
Protogothic church, and the Main Square Ensemble, with the late Renaissance palaces of Consistorio (16th C.),
Gil de Jaz (Escolapios since the 18th C.) and the Medieval Lonja. The whole town was declared Historic-Artistic Ensemble.
